Wisdom is not the only thing that come with age, but you don’t have to tolerate those facial wrinkles anymore. Botox is a safe and effective non-surgical reduction of facial lines and wrinkles. Botox injections are personally performed by Dr Compton in his East Lansing office and only take about 5 minutes. He uses a tiny needle to inject the Botox so these injections cause minimal pain and leave no scars. While bruising infrequently occurs with Botox injections, the majority of people experience no down time. Botox has a proven track record of safety when used in the small doses required for the small facial muscles. It is important though to have an experienced injector to ensure the optimal placement and dosage of Botox. Dr Compton has performed thousands of facial injections and is a fellowship trained facial plastic surgeon. This means that he knows the face and its muscles inside and out. Importantly he also knows the limitations of Botox and will not inject areas that give you that “had work done” appearance.

The area most commonly treated with Botox is the glabella which is the space between the eyebrows. This is where the 11 lines and the bunny lines are formed. The eleven lines are so named because they form 2 vertical creases that look like the number eleven. The bunny lines are horizontal lines between the nose and forehead and are formed when you wrinkle your nose like a bunny. Dr Compton typically uses 15-25 units of Botox to treat these areas.

The crow’s feet and forehead are the next most commonly treated areas with Botox. The crow’s feet are the lines that radiate from the outside part of your eye like the spokes of a wheel. Botox treatment of this area will not only reduce the wrinkles but will also lift the tail of the eyebrow which is the part closest to the temple. This can be a very appealing benefit of treating the crows feet with Botox. The forehead lines are the horizontal creases above your eyebrows. Treatment of this area with Botox can be very effective at reducing these lines but should be done with care as it can decrease the eyebrow height. The crow’s feet and forehead are typically treated at the same time to minimize this decrease in brow height. Dr Compton typically uses 20-25 units of Botox to treat the crow’s feet and 10-20 units for the forehead.

The neck and décolletage are also areas where Botox can produce dramatic results. In the neck, Botox can help to lessen the appearance of platysmal bands. These are the cord-like projections between the chin and chest. The décolletage is the upper chest where a necklace typically hangs. Fine lines and wrinkles in this area can be smoothed with Botox injections.

botoxWomen frequently ask if Botox is safe for use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

While there are no reliable studies on this topic, any risk for injury to a born or unborn child is not worth the potential benefit. Therefore, Dr Compton will not inject patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
