Nobody likes to age, especially in our extremely image-conscious culture. We tend to celebrate youth and beauty more than most things, and in times like these, age lines and wrinkles can cause a lot of stress and self-image issues.

Wrinkles near the lips, nose, and corners of the mouth make us look older than we actually are. This can be especially true of the nasolabial folds, those harsh creases that stretch down from the sides of the nose to the sides of the lips.

Age lines appear when the production of collagen and elastin proteins declines, leaving the skin lacking in volume. Dermal fillers like Restylane are perhaps the best solution out there to tackle age lines.

Restylane and Hyaluronic Acid

Restylane is a gel-based product composed mainly of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally present in our skin. It attracts and bonds to water molecules, creating volume in our skin for a youthful appearance free of fine lines.

Unfortunately, as we age, the level of hyaluronic acid in our skin declines. Prolonged sun exposure is one of the causes of this issue, as is the aging process.

To supplement the level of hyaluronic acid in the skin, people can come in for Restylane injections. Restylane allows a person to smooth away a number of moderate and harsh facial lines and wrinkles in order to achieve a younger look.

What to Expect from the Restylane Treatment Procedure

The Restylane treatment procedure is quite simple and very convenient. A well-trained physician will inject Restylane using an ultrafine-gauge needle. These injections will be delivered into the wrinkles and age lines. Only a small amount of the product will be used in each injection.

A local anesthetic called lidocaine is included in Restylane. This numbs the treatment region to any pain. This combined with the ultrafine needle gauge makes the treatment feel quite gentle in comparison to other injectables.

Restylane is a short procedure, requiring only a half an hour at the most to perform. It is typically shorter than this. Because it’s such a short treatment, patients can typically go back to work right afterwards. Many people call it a “lunchtime procedure” because of this.

Unlike surgical-rejuvenation procedures, no downtime will be needed after your Restylane treatment. Dr. Compton will give you your post-treatment care directions during a consultation at our office.

Your Results

The results of a Restylane treatment session will be apparent for up to 18 months. Your age, lifestyle, and skin type all have an impact on how long Restylane’s effects will be apparent for you.

Once the product has been absorbed into your system and the results have faded, you may be able to return to our office for follow-up treatments. This is a common practice for our patients.
