What to Expect on the Day of Chin & Neck Liposuction Surgery

On the day of your chin and neck liposuction, it will be performed under local anesthesia. However, if you and Dr. Compton feel that general anesthesia is a better option, it can be performed under that anesthesia.

Once you are numb, Dr. Compton will make about a half-inch incision just underneath the chin and in the creases below each earlobe. A thin cannula, connected to a suction machine, will then be inserted into these incisions to perform liposuction in the neck and chin area.

Once he is finished, Dr. Compton will close each incision with one or two small sutures. Gauze pads will be placed over the incisions, as some watery, blood-tinged leakage is expected from those areas during the first 24 hours. A soft, elastic compression garment will be applied to prevent excessive swelling.

On average, without complications, this procedure will take approximately one hour to complete.
