A facelift is the most comprehensive approach to treating the wrinkles, jowls and sagging of the lower face and neck caused by age. This procedure will not change who you are, but is aimed at correcting the underlying facial flaws that occur with aging. A facelift can make a large difference in the way you feel and increase the confidence you have to face the world.
Many people are apprehensive of undergoing a facelift, thinking of it as a very large surgical procedure. A modern day facelift addresses the jawline and neck only, and does not address the forehead or mid-face. While many patients prefer to head to the operating room for such procedures due to the length of time needed, which is about 3 hours, we often do facelifts in the office both for cost-saving measures and because it’s a very comfortable procedure to undergo in the office.
It is generally a skin-level procedure, oftentimes going below the muscle as well, but it is not a deep procedure as many people perceive it to be.
There are different levels to the facelift. There most common facelift would be more of a lift of the skin around the ear to pull the neck and jowl tight, as well as tightening the neck through an incision underneath the chin. This is a very safe procedure just more or less under the skin level. There is a more extensive operation which does wield significantly improved results known as a deep-plane facelift. It does work below the muscles below the face and neck and provides a more comprehensive rejuvenation procedure for the lower face and neck. Oftentimes these are combined with other surgical procedures to provide more of a comprehensive full facial rejuvenation.

Before & Afters
During a preliminary consultation, Dr. Compton will examine the structure of your face, skin color and elasticity. The severity of each facial aging component will be addressed and a personalized treatment plan will be created. You will discuss your desires for change with Dr. Compton and what you can realistically expect to be accomplished. His expertise will guide the decision for the correct approach and determine if a mini-facelift, long flap facelift, neck lift, or chin implant will provide you the best results with the least downtime.
It is important to let Dr. Compton know all of the medications you are taking including supplements and herbal remedies during this discussion. The use of any tobacco or nicotine containing products needs to be mentioned directly to Dr. Compton as it increases your risk of complications from facelift surgery and it may not be the best treatment option for you. Other factors that may be important are autoimmune disease, decreased immune system, or problems with healing.
Your Facelift will be performed by Dr. Andrew Compton at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, West Bloomfield surgery center or in his office in Troy.
The surgery involves the removal of excess skin from the face and the tightening of deeper tissues beneath to provide longer lasting support. Fat may be repositioned and the jaw line smoothed for a more contoured appearance. Fat is commonly removed from under the chin and the muscle bands here are sutured together to give your neck a slim, smooth contour.
Although a facelift can be done alone, it may be performed in conjunction with other facial enhancements such as a neck lift, forehead lift, midface lift, eyelid surgery, chin implant, facial fat transplant or a reshaping of the nose to obtain the most outstanding and natural results possible.
There is a wide-range of ages for individuals who choose facelift procedures. It is sometimes performed on patients in their thirties and has also been successfully performed on patients in their eighties. The aging process cannot be reversed, but a facelift can give back a more youthful, firm facial look.
