What is a Deep Neck Lift?

A deep neck lift is a surgical procedure that aims to tighten loose skin, remove excess fat, and refine the contours of the neck and jawline. Over time, aging, weight fluctuations, and genetics can lead to sagging skin, vertical banding, and a loss of definition around the neck. This procedure addresses these concerns by targeting the deep muscle layer, contouring the deep tissues, reducing the size of the submandibular glands, and tightening the muscles for a smoother, more youthful appearance. Depending on the patient’s age, a neck lift may be performed through a small incision under the chin or may require a combination with a facelift if significant excess skin removal is necessary for the desired results.

Who Are the Best Candidates For a Deep Neck Lift?

The best candidates for a neck lift in the Detroit area are men and women who are experiencing noticeable sagging skin, muscle laxity, or excess fat around their necks. Many patients seeking a neck lift are in their 40s to 70s, but younger individuals with premature signs of aging or genetic concerns may also benefit. Individuals with a well-defined bone structure typically achieve the best results, as the procedure enhances natural contours rather than altering fundamental facial features. If loose skin and muscle laxity extend to the lower face, a facelift combined with a neck lift may provide a more drastic improvement. During your consultation in Troy, Dr. Compton will assess your unique concerns to determine the best approach for you.

What Are the Benefits of a Deep Neck Lift?

A neck lift is one of the most effective procedures for tackling concerns in the lower face. It eliminates sagging skin and tightens the underlying muscles, restoring a firmer, more defined neckline. It also reduces the appearance of vertical neck bands, which can contribute to a tired or aged look. Patients with excess fat beneath the chin (often referred to as a “double chin”) can achieve a slimmer, more contoured jawline with the help of targeted fat removal. In addition to aesthetic improvements, a neck lift can boost confidence and help patients feel more youthful and refreshed.

What’s the First Step?

The first step in the process of getting a neck lift is to consult with a professional to ensure that this procedure is right for you. Dr. Compton sees patients in his Troy, MI office to sit down and carefully assess their skin elasticity, goals, concerns, and medical history. With this, he will develop a surgical plan that effectively targets your concerns and achieves your cosmetic goals.

Once your plan is finalized, Dr. Compton’s team will guide you through pre-operative instructions, including any necessary lifestyle adjustments or medications to avoid. This consultation is a great opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, and fully understand what to expect from your neck lift journey.

What to Expect on the Day of Deep Neck Lift Surgery

To begin your surgery, you’ll first undergo pre-surgical preparation. Dr. Compton will meet with you beforehand to review the surgical plan, answer any last-minute questions, and make surgical markings to guide the procedure. Once in the operating room, you will be placed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the specifics of your surgery. Dr. Compton will then make incisions under the chin and possibly behind the ears to access and tighten the underlying muscles while recontouring the soft tissues of the neck. Fat removal, salivary gland reduction, and skin redistribution will refine the neck contour for a smoother, more youthful appearance. After the procedure is complete, you will be monitored in a recovery area before being discharged home with post-operative care instructions.

Deep Neck Lift Recovery

Recovery from a neck lift varies from patient to patient, but most people can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort in the first few days. Dr. Compton will provide detailed aftercare instructions, including how to manage swelling, when to resume normal activities, and how to care for your incisions. Most patients take about one to two weeks off from work, with noticeable swelling subsiding within that timeframe. Drains may be required based on the extent of the surgery. It’s essential to keep your head of the bed elevated, but your neck extended to allow facial swelling to drain properly. You should avoid strenuous activities and follow Dr. Compton’s guidelines to aid in healing and minimize complications. While initial improvements are visible within a few weeks, final results continue to refine over several months as the tissues settle.

How Much Does a Deep Neck Lift Cost in Detroit, MI?

The cost of a Neck Lift in Detroit varies depending on several factors, including the complexity of the procedure, the depth of anesthesia, and the deep structures that require contouring. A Deep Necklift is done through an incision under the chin to contour the deep neck structures and tighten the platysma muscle.  This may include reduction of the submandibular salivary gland.  Incisions behind the ear may be made to remove extra skin and tighten the platysma muscle from the sides.  Patients may elect for IV sedation or prefer local anesthesia with oral sedation.  The cost will range from $8,000 to $16,000 depending on all the factors listed above.

In patients over 40 years old or those with significant laxity, the necklift should be combined with a deep plane facelift to optimally correct your neck contour issues. Refer to the Deep Plane Facelift page for more information.

You will receive a detailed price estimate based on your treatment plan during your consultation.  Dr. Compton’s Troy office can provide guidance on payment plans and financing solutions to fit your budget.
