While the quest to find the Fountain of Youth may still be unresolved, science has made it possible to erase years off the face. Signs of aging are most evident on the face. Plastic surgery makes it possible to turn back the clock.

For those people who aren’t feeling okay with going under the knife, there are minimally invasive fixes that can still get rid of lines and wrinkles on the face. Dermal fillers like Restylane offer a convenient way to resolve age lines without any scalpels or incisions.

Restylane Injections

Restylane is a hyaluronic-acid-based dermal filler that smoothes away moderate and deeper facial wrinkles. Contours are restored in the face to offer a youthful appearance. Although there are other dermal fillers in the market that are also composed of hyaluronic acid, years of research have helped to make Restylane one of the most stable fillers currently available.

Collagen is a protein that is important for maintaining skin elasticity. As we age, the level of collagen in our bodies decreases. Collagen has the ability to replenish, but aging accelerates the rate of breakdown, and regenerated collagen is inadequate to compensate for the loss.

Hyaluronic acid, another chemical produced in the body, maintains skin suppleness. When elasticity and suppleness are lost, visible creases start to appear in the skin.

Restylane contains hyaluronic acid, which is identical to the naturally occurring component. It is designed specifically to affect different layers of the skin to restore lost volume. Dermal fillers like Restylane offer the advantage of being temporary fixes that give the patient a great deal of control over their appearance.

Hyaluronic acid, the primary active ingredient in Restylane, is non-animal-based, making it hypoallergenic. There are only minimal risks of hypersensitivity reactions or allergies with Restylane treatment as compared to many other fillers on the market.

What to Expect During Restylane Treatment

It’s important to discuss the Restylane procedure with an experienced plastic surgeon beforehand during a consultation. During the initial discussion, you’ll tell the plastic surgeon about your aesthetic objectives so that they can help you achieve them. You will be given a thorough understanding of what the procedure realistically can and cannot do.

The Restylane treatment procedure begins with identifying the treatment areas that will result in the most effective correction of lines and wrinkles. The required dosage is then determined. Restylane is injected into the chosen spots using a fine needle. Injected regions are massaged lightly to ensure even spread of the product. The duration of the procedure is short enough to fit it into a lunch break – it only takes 30 minutes to complete.

Aftercare

Restylane is well tolerated by the body when administered by an expert. Temporary minor swelling and bruising are common following administration. Makeup can cover these bruises. Restylane use is not recommended for regions close to the eyes. In a few cases, touch-up injections may be necessary to achieve the desired results.
