Introduction to IPL PhotoFacial

You may wish to address your age spots, sun-damaged skin, or uneven skin tone, but perhaps you don’t want to undergo an entire facelift or another more invasive procedure. Fortunately, a range of options is available to treat skin damage in most areas of the body.

L’Atelier MedSpa, based in Troy, MI, offers Intense Pulse Light Therapy (IPL) PhotoFacials, a non-invasive treatment that helps correct damage caused by sun exposure and enhances the color and complexion of your skin. L’Atelier MedSpa uses the Lumecca IPL, the strongest and safest IPL device on the market. With the Lumecca, patients receive up to three times more energy to improve vascular and pigmented lesions on the skin, resulting in fewer treatment sessions compared to standard IPL technology. Read on to learn more about IPL PhotoFacials, and schedule your appointment today!

What is an IPL PhotoFacial?

An Intense Pulse Light (IPL) PhotoFacial utilizes advanced technology to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, reaching damaged skin cells and inducing cell turnover. The laser stimulates the body’s natural collagen regeneration cycle, leveraging the body’s own healing process to produce healthy, new skin. With the Lumecca, this process can take place over fewer sessions, allowing the IPL treatment to target and refresh your areas of concern more effectively.

Who Are the Best Candidates for an IPL PhotoFacial?

Dr. Compton recommends the Lumecca IPL PhotoFacial treatment for patients seeking to address age spots, superficial vessels, unwanted brown or red discoloration, or sun-damaged areas of skin. Common areas of treatment include the face, neck, decolletage, legs, hands, and arms.

IPL PhotoFacial treatments are suitable for most patients of all skin tones. However, patients with darker skin tones may not find as much benefit from IPL PhotoFacial treatments due to the laser’s difficulty distinguishing natural melanated pigment from sun-damaged cells.

What Are the Benefits of an IPL PhotoFacial?

Our patients in the Detroit area often request IPL PhotoFacial treatments for the following reasons:

  • Visibly firmer, smoother skin texture
  • Reduced or removed evidence of sun damage, such as dark spots
  • Reduction in the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles
  • Effective treatment for common chronic skin conditions such as rosacea
  • Minimally-invasive treatment
  • Quick and effective procedure
  • Little to no downtime for recovery

What’s the First Step?

The Lumecca IPL PhotoFacial treatment delivers unparalleled results compared to most standard IPL technologies, but Dr. Compton still advises patients to ensure this technology will benefit their skin type first. To find out whether Lumecca is right for you, please schedule a consultation at L’Atelier MedSpa in Troy, MI. Dr. Compton or our lead aesthetician, Allison Pyc, will meet with you to review your medical history, evaluate your skin condition, and make recommendations on whether the Lumecca IPL PhotoFacial treatment or other cosmetic treatments are suitable for your unique skin care needs.

If you are determined to be a suitable candidate for the Lumecca IPL PhotoFacial, you will be given a customized IPL PhotoFacial treatment plan that addresses all your various areas of skin concerns. You can begin your treatment on the same day as your consultation or schedule an additional appointment.

What to Expect on the Day of an IPL PhotoFacial Treatment

Lumecca IPL PhotoFacial treatments are performed in the office. Typically, most patients are able to tolerate the procedure without the assistance of any topical numbing. When you are ready, you will be outfitted with protective eyewear, and your skin will be cleansed and prepped to receive the laser. As Dr. Compton or Allison guides the Lumecca IPL device over the targeted areas highlighted in your consultation, you may feel a sensation similar to that of a subtle rubber band snapping on the skin. The entire treatment session typically will take around 20 minutes, after which you will be able to resume your normal schedule.

IPL PhotoFacial Recovery

Typically, patients require little to no downtime after Lumecca treatments. It is common to experience redness and warmth within the first couple of hours after treatment. Patients may also notice the pigmentation areas become darker for the first week and then flake off the skin after. Dr. Compton advises patients to avoid direct sunlight and to wear at least SPF 30 after treatments.

How Much Does an IPL PhotoFacial Cost in Detroit, MI?

The cost of an IPL PhotoFacial in Detroit, MI, will depend on the extent of the treatment area covered by the Lumecca IPL device, the number of sessions required to deliver the patient’s best results, and facility fees. L’Atelier MedSpa offers Lumecca IPL treatments in a package of three sessions. To receive a comprehensive cost breakdown, please schedule a consultation.
