What is a
Facelift?

A facelift is a cosmetic procedure that targets the effects of aging and gravity to lift and support fallen cheeks, jowls, and neck skin and muscles. This facial rejuvenation process suspends the platysma muscle to redefine the jawline and neck, making it a perfect solution for sagging jowls and hanging necks. This surgical procedure gives patients facial harmony that is vibrant, youthful, and restored.

A rhytidectomy is often performed in conjunction with other facelift-adjacent cosmetic procedures, such as a Brow Lift, an Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery), a Neck Lift, and a Rhinoplasty (Nose Job).

  • A mini facelift is a less invasive version of a traditional facelift, designed to address early signs of aging in the lower face and jawline. It involves smaller incisions, less downtime, and a quicker recovery while still providing a refreshed and youthful appearance.

This procedure is ideal for individuals with mild to moderate skin laxity, particularly in the jowls and lower cheeks. The surgeon typically makes small incisions around the ears, then tightens the underlying muscles and removes excess skin to create a natural-looking lift.
Compared to a full facelift, a mini facelift requires a shorter surgery time, minimal scarring, and a faster healing process. Most patients can return to normal activities within a week, though some swelling and bruising may persist for a few weeks.

While the results are not as dramatic or long-lasting as a full facelift, a mini facelift can provide a noticeable improvement with a more youthful and refreshed look. It is often recommended for those in their 40s to 50s who are beginning to see skin laxity but are not yet ready for a full surgical facelift.

What’s the first step?

The journey to a facelift begins with an initial consultation with Dr. Compton, where you’ll discuss your aesthetic goals, concerns, and desired outcomes. This important meeting includes a thorough evaluation of your medical history, overall health, and facial structure to determine if you’re a good candidate for the procedure. You’ll explore various facelift options, including full facelifts, mini-facelifts, and non-surgical alternatives, to identify the best approach for your needs.

Dr. Compton will then create a personalized treatment plan that outlines the surgical approach, timeline, expected results, and any necessary pre-surgery instructions or preparations. This consultation sets the foundation for a successful facelift, ensuring both you and Dr. Compton are aligned in achieving your desired outcome.

What to expect
from a facelift

On the day of your facelift in Atlanta, you’ll arrive at the surgery center, where the medical team will welcome you. After completing any necessary paperwork, you’ll undergo preoperative preparations, which include a review of your medical history and a final consultation to address any last-minute questions.

Anesthesia will be administered to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Depending on the chosen approach, either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia may be used. Once you’re comfortably under anesthesia, the surgery will begin. The procedure involves making incisions in discrete areas on the face to lift and reposition the skin and underlying tissues. Depending on the extent of the facelift, this could take several hours.

After the surgery, you will be moved to our extended recovery area, where you will be monitored overnight as the anesthesia wears off. Dr. Familusi will provide post-operative instructions, including caring for your incisions, managing discomfort, and making any needed follow-up appointments. The entire process is designed to ensure your safety, comfort, and optimal results from your facelift surgery.

Facelift
Recovery

Recovery after a facelift involves several key phases to ensure optimal healing and results. Immediately following surgery, you can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which are normal parts of the healing process. You’ll need to rest and keep your head elevated for the first few days to minimize swelling. You may have to wear a compression garment to support your healing tissues and reduce swelling.

Most patients can return to light activities within 1-2 weeks, but you’ll need to avoid vigorous exercise and activities that could put stress on your facial tissues. Swelling and bruising typically subside within a few weeks, and you’ll start to see the initial results of your facelift.

How much
does a
Facelift
cost?

Facelift surgery may range from $16,000 to $20,000 on average. The cost can vary based on several factors, including the complexity of the procedure and the specific techniques used. This price typically includes preoperative consultations, the surgical procedure, anesthesia, and post-operative care.
