We Can Reconstruct Your Skin After Mohs Surgery

By Andrew Compton, M.D.

Undergoing Mohs surgery can be a highly challenging moment in your life. Whether it’s the physical strain or the emotional stress, you may find yourself feeling tired and worn out as a result of the procedure. During this stressful time, we offer expert skin reconstruction to help you return to normal.

Restoring Your Natural Beauty After Mohs Surgery

During Mohs surgery, your cancerous growth is removed, along with a small margin of the healthy tissue. This prevents further relapse. In some cases, basic wound cleaning and suturing treatments are sufficient.

In many cases, however, Mohs surgery creates a large wound, or gap, in the skin of the area. This gap must be addressed with the help of skin reconstruction. A skin-reconstruction surgery is also the best way to effectively reduce scarring and injury.

During skin-reconstruction surgery, Dr. Compton will surgically reconstruct your facial skin in a way that is careful and precise. With the proper techniques, the skin of the area will regain its natural look without any aesthetic issues.

Technique Options

There are two basic treatment options for skin-reconstruction surgery: flap reconstruction and grafting.

Flaps and grafts are sections of tissue that come from the patient’s own body. The main difference between the two is that a flap has its own blood supply and a graft does not.

During the procedure, the flap or graft is first harvested from the patient’s body. It is then transferred to the area where the cancer was removed. This tissue is used to reconstruct the appearance of the region.

The Surgical Procedure

The Post-Surgical Recovery Process

After your procedure is complete, you will be able to return home and recover. Dr. Compton will provide detailed instructions for many aspects of recovery, including washing, cleaning, and caring for the area. Follow these instructions as closely as possible to preserve the quality of your results.

Dr. Compton may prescribe oral medication for pain management. You will also need to come in for a scheduled check-up, where the sutures will be removed and your treatment personalized to your healing needs.
